It’s not every day that a sixteen-year-old girl founds and leads a popular literary organisation. This club was started in 2012 by Dhirubhai Ambani International School student Anvita Budhraja, coinciding with the 237th birthday celebration of the world famous author Jane Austen.
The first major event that the organisation held was on December 16, 2012. This group not only connects readers through a book club, but it has also reached out to colleges in Mumbai and organised a creative writing competition.
The challenge for competitors was to recreate any famous Jane Austen scene, but with a modern twist for the twenty-first century. In addition, the club organises a lot of similar literary events, tournaments, seminars, and get-togethers in Mumbai.

The Pen
The International Association of Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists & Novelists, or PEN, is one of the most illustrious and established literary societies worldwide. Mumbai is home to its Indian chapter. The club meets once a month, but also does a tonne of literary events and courses.
One can choose to be a full or associate member of the PEN; full membership has no requirements for associate membership and requires at least two published works. The organisation meets once a month at Mumbai’s Theosophy Hall. Currently, there are three circles within the PEN: those for writers, publishers, and readers.
